i was listening to the kane show the other day, and they were talking about this new detox diet. did your mind quickly go to the lemonade, cayenne pepper, maple syrup diet? oh, what a long ten days that was. but no, not a food detox, but the great american apparel diet.
this new detox diet consists of not shopping for an entire 12 months. the only thing you are allowed to buy is underwear, footwear, and accessories. its a way for men and women to really use what they store in their closets, to curb spending, and to maybe cure shopaholics. i was chuckling to myself when listeners were calling in saying they don't think they would be able to last as little as a week because they somehow shop daily.
i just went through a winter cleaning, and donated my clothes to a clothing drive my work was having. i easily filled two shopping bags. when i was going through the clothes, some of these pieces, i bought a few months ago, and tired of it. i would admit that i do have somewhat of a spending problem. i always need a little trip to the mall to buy a new outfit for a night out or i see something and if its on sale, i'll buy it. but this new detox diet has really got me thinking. i really waste money on items that i'll only wear once or twice. i really dont need to hit up the stores because theyre having a sale.
im going to partake in this. im not going to fully commit to the 12 months right away, but instead to 3 months and slowly work my way to the full 12 months. ive checked my receipts and my bank statements, and the last time i shopped/bought clothes was january 21st! what a great way to become more creative with your wardrobe pieces and a nice way to save money! wish me luck! and if thats not enough incentive, the possibilities are really endless with footwear and accessories ;)

Aww, I'm trying to do this also...let's do it together! Check this out: http://www.theuniformproject.com/
One dress, 365 days. I little drastic for me, but I give the girl some cred.
We will totally do this. For me, its easier to do it in 3 month intervals. It seems less daunting that way!
That is crazy! But, imagine, if you bought 2 or 3 dresses, but rotated them and bought them in solid navy, black, or grey.. your options to accessorize would be endless!!
